Cherry’s interest in personal stories is linked in with her long time passion for oral history and folk traditions. While still in her teens, she worked on these projects with the now legendary radio producer Charles Parker, and has since acquired a postgraduate diploma in cultural history.  She has included material gathered from interviews in several of her books, and has a passionate belief in the value of the memories of individuals, and in  writing them down.

Her work with life writing includes tuition at summer schools  and on cruise ships, and a Life Stories project at a hospice, where she also devised and delivered a training programme for volunteers. Cherry is a very experienced lecturer , and has given talks on various subjects at venues such as the Royal Academy, the British Council, and the Exeter Festival; she is also an accredited lecturer for the arts organisation NADFAS.

Cherry loves to travel, to cook, and to sing early music –not usually all at once! She lives near Stroud with her husband, artist Robert Lee-Wade. Robert and Cherry are keen travellers, and have visited places as far flung as Easter Island, Syria, Siberia, and Peru.
